Horoscopus came to life in 2008, although its seed had been germinating for a few years leading up to that point.
Having myself been born a Virgo, Ascendant Sagittarius with a Moon in Libra, a ruling Mercury conjunct Uranus as part of a 9th House stellium, I had fallen in love with astrology in my mid teens, and what some considered a temporary phase turned into a personal passion for this incredible tool so many people were interested in but often confused about.
The seventies and eighties were boon times for astrology, with frequent and widespread conferences occurring throughout North America and parts of Europe. But it also opened the door for many people to labour under the title of astrologer without the necessary credentials, thereby doing astrology a disfavour and affecting its overall credibility.
I was fortunate to fall under the guidance of an excellent Montreal astrologer who happened to teach a four year program at the school that carries her name, le Centre d’Etudes Astrologiques Diane Houle, and graduated in 1994. I have been practicing it ever since, and Diane still teaches, faithfully, to the now much smaller – but more dedicated – number of students who show up year after year, wishing to incorporate astrology into their lives.
I also have the honour of sitting on the board of the Hirsig society, a registered charitable organization created by prominent astrologer Axel Harvey. Its aim is to establish an astrological library in Montreal, the likes of which already exist in several cities across the world.
Additionally, I have close ties to Astrology Montreal, an organization dedicated to the study, advancement and enjoyment of astrology.
Today, the numbers of devotees are smaller, especially among the younger generation. It is my hope that the gap between those who practice astrology with dedication and those who are still unfamiliar with it can be narrowed. A lot of education needs to take place, and my mission is to make that happen, within and outside of Horoscopus.
Sincerely,
Sandra Jelmi
